DO’S

  • Call ServiceMaster by JTS IMMEDIATELY to prevent further damage from occurring
  • Remove everything that isn’t heavy or attached to the floor – such as coffee tables, rugs, etc.
  • Mop or blot (dabbing something to soak the water up) your flooring if you can
  • Lift shades and curtains off the floor
  • Put foil underneath the legs of your furniture that can’t be moved out of the room
  • Remove artwork, jewelry or any other valuable that could potentially be affected by the humidity caused by the water
  • If books or other printed materials have been damaged, be sure to place them under pressure to prevent warping
  • Open closed-off areas to air out any trapped water – cabinets, closets, drawers, etc.

Don’ts

  • Don’t get shocked! Avoid entering any room with water damage that has the electricity still running – appliances and cords can send electrical currents through water
  • If your ceiling is sagging due to water damage, don’t enter the room. We can’t have you smashed by your ceiling on our clock!
  • Let a professional take care of the carpet – don’t remove it if it’s permanent
  • Avoid using any electric appliances when standing on wet ground
  • If you see mold, stay away from it and try not to touch it
  • Avoid turning on lights in the affected room/area
  • Don’t use a vacuum when cleaning up the water
